K290 - Tin Oxide - by Sneyd Ceramics:

Tin oxide is a highly esteemed ceramic opacifier, revered for imparting a smooth, opaque quality to glazes. It's most commonly used to achieve a classic, creamy white finish, but can also soften and brighten other colours. In its powdered form, tin oxide blends seamlessly into glazes and slips, contributing to the stability and texture of the final glaze surface. It excels in a variety of firing conditions, maintaining its properties in both high and low-temperature kilns. Due to its refractory nature, tin oxide is often utilised in small percentages, yet it significantly enhances the visual depth and tactile quality of ceramic pieces, making it a staple in the ceramist's toolkit for creating elegant and timeless works.
